NCO in the Westmorland & Cumberland Yeomanry c.1870

This superb portrait shows us an NCO of the Westmorland & Cumberland Yeomanry in full dress c. 1870.
He is still wearing the tall early busby  pattern, as well as the Hussar barrel sash.
The last point is quite interesting, as the barrel sash is thought to have been abolished around 1870 for NCOs, while gauntlets were replaced by gloves in 1873.

It is also quite interesting to see that this handsome gentleman obviously has Indian origins ; there sure is a fascinating tale hiding behind that photograph !
