The Ayrshire Yeomanry Cavalry
was one of only
two long-standing Scottish Yeomanry regiments.
While the officers sported a fully
braided Hussar
uniform, it appears troopers were fitted with the much simpler
uniform shown here.
The jacket is Army blue with gold lace
and scarlet
facings (cuffs and collar).
The "pillbox" forage cap is blue with a yellow band
(note how orthochromatic film turns that colour into a flat dark
tone)
William Reid is noted as operating his
studio in Ayr from c.1867 to c.1878.
Thanks to Dave Knight
for his help.
