Cabinet Card, studio Stabler & Fries in Sunderland.
Northumberland Hussars c. 1880.

Raised in 1817, the "Newcastle and Northumberland Volunteer Cavalry" changed their name to "Northumberland Hussars" in 1876.

Uniforms are dark blue with white lace ; busbies sport scarlet bags, and white over red plumes.

Paul Stabler and Martin Fries were born in Germany - they migrated to England and settled in Sunderland.
Brothers-in-law, and both photographers, it seems they operated as an association at 63, St.John Street, in 1879 and 1880.
